About River City Girls Zero

River City Girls Zero is the long-lost prequel to the popular River City Girls series, originally released in Japan in 1994 as Shin Nekketsu Koha: Kunio-tachi no Banka. For the first time, this classic 16-bit beat-'em-up has been officially translated and released in the West, complete with new features that enhance the original experience. Players can switch between four hot-blooded heroes—Kunio, Riki, Misako, and Kyoko—each with unique special moves, as they fight to clear their names of a heinous crime.

The game delivers bone-crunching, co-op beat-'em-up action across a variety of environments, including a high school, docks, amusement park, casino, and more. Battle through hordes of thugs using an arsenal of punches, kicks, jump attacks, grabs, and devastating special moves. The action also includes thrilling "Mode 7" style vehicle stages where you fight from a motorcycle. Up to two players can team up locally to take down enemies in classic side-scrolling brawler fashion.

This version of River City Girls Zero is enhanced with new motion-comic cutscenes for the opening and closing, a brand new animated intro, and additional music tracks by Megan McDuffee and DEMONDICE, who contributed to the soundtrack of River City Girls. The original 16-bit graphics and soundtrack are preserved, giving players an authentic retro experience while enjoying modern quality-of-life additions. An image gallery featuring vintage box art, manual images, and extra content is also included.

The story of River City Girls Zero sets the stage for the events of River City Girls 1 and 2, making it a must-play for fans of the series. The intriguing narrative follows the protagonists as they attempt to clear their names by fighting through a city full of criminals. With its charming pixel art, catchy chiptune music, and satisfying combat, this lost classic is a gem for retro gaming enthusiasts and beat-'em-up fans alike.

River City Girls Zero is available as a base game for PC on Steam. The Steam CD key is region free, allowing activation worldwide. Whether you're a longtime fan of the Kunio-kun series or a newcomer looking for a fun co-op experience, this game offers hours of nostalgic brawling action. Dive into the past and discover the origins of River City's toughest heroes.
