Combat Mission Shock Force 2 brings the acclaimed wargame series to Steam, plunging you into a hypothetical conflict in Syria. Command US Stryker Brigade Combat Teams (SBCT) and Heavy Brigade Combat Teams (HBCT) against Syrian Army infantry, mechanized, and armored units. The game covers modern asymmetric threats like irregular fighters, IEDs, suicide bombers, and spies, offering a comprehensive modern warfare experience.

Players can choose between real-time or the unique WeGo hybrid turn-based mode. In WeGo, you plan 60 seconds of action, then watch both sides execute simultaneously. This system supports play-by-email (PBEM) and hotseat multiplayer. Real-time and WeGo head-to-head play also work over LAN or internet via TCP/IP. The Quick Battle system lets you purchase custom forces and fight on various maps for massive replayability.

Units are portrayed in 1:1 scale with high-resolution 3D models featuring articulated suspensions and animated hatches. Combat Mission combines real-world physics with detailed force portrayal, down to individual soldier equipment. Advanced vehicle damage modeling tracks each subsystem, with realistic ballistics, armor, and post-armor effects. Weather, lighting, and terrain dynamically affect unit and weapon performance.

The game excels in simulating 'soft factors' like experience, morale, and leadership at the individual soldier level. These elements collectively influence unit behavior, making battlefield psychology as important as firepower. Relative Spotting ensures each soldier has a unique view, avoiding the 'Borg' spotting common in other games. Command and Control (C2) realistically models information flow between soldiers.

Features include tactical warfare at battalion and below scale, command of individual vehicles and squads, and innovative systems for fog of war, line of sight, and objectives. The editor allows creating custom maps, scenarios, and campaigns. Quick Battle mode sets up deliberate or randomized battles. Single-player and multiplayer options include PBEM, hotseat, and TCP/IP. The game includes one large campaign, a training campaign, 20 standalone scenarios, and numerous Quick Battle maps.

The arid combat environment now includes waterways, bridges, and new terrain. Detailed equipment for US and Syrian forces includes 41 vehicles and 35 small arms/crew weapons. Buildings have explicitly simulated doors, windows, and floors. Line of sight and line of fire are separately calculated, and soldier posture affects spotting, cover, and engagement.
