Trainz: A New Era is more than just a train simulator—it's a complete railroad creation platform. Every route you see in Trainz was created by players, and over 10,000 free routes are available on the Trainz Download Station (DLS). The all-new graphics engine delivers full world shadows and per-pixel lighting, bringing every detail to life. Multiplayer mode lets you team up with other rail fans to operate a working rail line together. The simulation features real-time world physics, including engine power, train weight, rolling resistance, track gradient, curve resistance, and adhesion. You can even tune physics on-the-fly with brand-new real-time editing tools to match real-world train characteristics.

Procedurally animated spline junctions automatically add frogs, blades, and checkrails when you lay tracks, with animated blades as you change junction direction. Realistic cab sway and external train motion use a new suspension modeling system for more lifelike visuals. Smoke and weather effects interact with world objects—rain won't penetrate tunnels, and smoke billows from under bridges. These details create an immersive environment that responds naturally.
