Sid Meier's Civilization V: Brave New World is the second major expansion for the acclaimed turn-based strategy game Civilization V. It deepens the late-game experience by introducing international trade routes, a World Congress, and new culture and diplomacy systems. Players can create Great Works, choose ideologies, and influence global politics through resolutions.
The expansion adds nine new civilizations including Poland, Brazil, Portugal, and the Zulu, each with unique abilities, units, and buildings. Eight new wonders like the Parthenon and Broadway provide new strategic options. Two new scenarios—American Civil War and Scramble for Africa—offer fresh historical challenges with dynamic elements.
Trade routes become a core economic and cultural mechanic, allowing you to send caravans and cargo ships to other cities for gold, science, or cultural influence. Routes can be targeted inward to boost your own cities with food and production, adding strategic depth to empire management.
The World Congress introduces diplomatic voting on global issues such as trade sanctions, resource limits, and nuclear non-proliferation. Vote trading and intrigue make diplomacy more dynamic, and a new path to Diplomatic Victory emerges through influence and resolution passage.
Cultural victory is reworked: you now generate Great Works with Artists, Writers, and Musicians, placing them in museums and wonders. Archaeologists can excavate ancient sites for artifacts. The first civilization to achieve dominant cultural influence over all others wins a Culture Victory.
Ideologies—Freedom, Order, and Autocracy—unlock powerful tenets that shape your empire's endgame. Your choice affects relations with other civilizations and can lead to ideological pressure or conflict. This expansion significantly enhances replayability and strategic variety in the late game.
