Combat Mission: Final Blitzkrieg (CMFB) is a tactical wargame set on the Western Front from October 1944 to January 1945. It focuses on the American sector, particularly the Battle of the Bulge. Players command battalion-level forces in a true 3D environment, managing individual vehicles, squads, and teams. The game simulates realistic physics, ballistics, and battlefield effects, along with soft factors like morale, experience, and leadership.

Two expansive campaigns offer distinct experiences: one follows American forces pushing into Aachen, the first major German city to fall; the other portrays Kampfgruppe Peiper's famous drive into American lines. Additionally, there is a training campaign, 25 standalone scenarios, and numerous Quick Battle maps. The game's hybrid system allows for both real-time and WeGo (turn-based) play, catering to different playstyles.

The winter weather and forested terrain set this title apart from other Combat Mission games. Conditions range from dry sunny days to muddy stormy nights, dynamically affecting visibility and mobility. Buildings have explicitly simulated doors, windows, and floors, adding depth to tactical decisions. Line of Sight and Line of Fire are separately calculated, meaning you might see something you can't shoot and vice versa.

Organizational changes in formations on both sides present new tactical challenges. American forces have improved armor, including the M36 tank destroyer, while German heavy armor makes its first appearance in the series. Single-player and head-to-head modes are supported, including Play By Email (PBEM). The Quick Battle system allows for deliberate or randomized battles based on player specifications.
