Phantom Abyss is an asynchronous multiplayer action game that plunges players into procedurally-generated temples filled with deadly traps, chasms, and guardians. Your goal: retrieve sacred relics from the deepest chambers. Each temple is a unique, single-attempt challenge—fail or settle for a lesser relic, and you'll never see that temple again. Only the most skilled adventurers can claim the legendary relic at the bottom, which permanently removes the temple from the game.

The game's standout feature is its asynchronous multiplayer system. As you explore, you'll see the phantom runs of up to 20 other players who attempted the same temple, including your Steam friends. Watch their successes and failures to navigate traps more effectively. When a phantom falls, you can even steal their whip. This system turns every run into a shared learning experience, making each attempt feel connected to a community of adventurers.

Progression is driven by collecting keys from chests to unlock deeper, more dangerous temple floors. Deeper floors house more coveted relics, with the final Legendary Relic granting you the temple as a permanent trophy. Along the way, you can offer treasures at altars to receive blessings from the gods, such as double jump, glide jump, extended slide, or damage protection. The more treasure you collect, the better the blessings.

Unlockable whips add another layer of strategy. Each whip carries a minor blessing but also a curse that complicates your run. Choose wisely before each attempt to balance risk and reward. Social features let you share Temple Codes for failed runs so friends can try the same temple, or share your Adventure Code to give others a playlist of temples you've attempted.
