XCOM: Chimera Squad takes place after the events of XCOM 2, where the war against the aliens has ended. Now, humanity and alien allies must coexist in the megacity of City 31. As the commander of the Chimera Squad, you are tasked with maintaining peace and stopping a rising revolution that threatens to plunge the city into chaos.

For the first time in the series, you can command both human and alien units, each with unique abilities. The roster includes 11 distinct soldiers, from psionic humans to reptilian Viper allies. This diversity opens up new tactical possibilities and strategic depth, as you leverage alien powers alongside human tech.

Combat is reimagined with an interleaved turn-based system. Instead of taking full turns per side, units act based on their initiative, creating dynamic and unpredictable encounters. This system rewards careful planning and risk-taking, as faster units can act before slower ones, but may also be left vulnerable.

Breaching is a core mechanic: you no longer simply open doors and hope for the best. Use the Breach Mode to coordinate devastating entry attacks on enemy hideouts. Choose your breach point, assign units, and unleash a coordinated assault that can turn the tide before the enemy even reacts.

The game is structured around condensed, fast-paced tactical encounters. Each mission is a focused skirmish that tests your tactical skills without the lengthy strategy layer of previous XCOM titles. Between missions, you manage your HQ, assign investigations, and expand operations to counter the growing threat.
