Blackthorn Arena is a strategy and management game set in the brutal Freelands, a region of city-states and trade towns where slavery is common. As the heir of the Blackthorn Arena, you must reclaim your family's glory by managing gladiators, participating in competitions, and dealing with daily events. The game features a dynamic world where all gladiators exist and evolve independently, not just your own but also those of other arena masters.

The game offers a deep RPG-level character build system. Choose from 6 major attributes and 6 weapon types, and combine over 100 combat skills to create unique fighters without class restrictions. Gladiators gain traits during their career that can significantly impact competitions. With over 200 pieces of armor and weapons, each set has a unique appearance reflected in the advanced avatar system, allowing you to customize both effectiveness and style.

Real-time combat with tactical pause lets you issue commands at any moment, switch between characters, or apply techniques. While you can only directly control one gladiator at a time, you can edit the combat AI of others to respond appropriately to different situations. This adds a layer of strategy as you balance direct control with automated behavior.

The gladiator career is brutal and challenging. Fighters can lose control due to will collapse, and they may die permanently when defeated.
