About Dawn of the Celestialpod
Dawn of the Celestialpod is a physics-based action game where you control a squid-like creature with a unique tentacle system. Use your tentacles to swing, pull, and grab your way through hostile environments inside robotic ships. Each ship presents new challenges and enemies designed to stop you from rescuing the captured Starfish. Master the tentacle mechanics to overcome obstacles and destroy the fleet from within.
The game features 10 unique ships, each with specialized tools and enemies to test your skills. A boss fight awaits, created in your image, requiring precise use of your tentacles. An upgrade system empowers your squid, allowing you to enhance abilities as you progress. The highly destructible environment reacts to your actions, adding depth to the gameplay.
The story begins as a Starfish, when a robotic fleet captures your kind. Freed by another Starfish who sacrifices themselves, you transform into a squid-like creature. Driven by their sacrifice, you charge into the fleet to save the remaining Starfish. Defeat robotic enemies reminiscent of forgotten species and uncover the chilling reality of what could happen to your friends.
Developed as a student capstone project starting in September 2017, Dawn of the Celestialpod expanded through senior production. The team built upon the original concept, adding content and polish to deliver a complete experience on Steam. The custom 2D-tentacle system and unique art style with parallaxing depth set the game apart.
